Add basic support for NXP FXLS8962AF/FXLS8964AF Automotive
accelerometers.
It will allow setting up scale/gain and reading x,y,z
axis.

Do you have a link to the data sheet? Can you add it as Datasheet: tag?

I guess this can be hidden.

Why not select?

And drop this.

Missed module name.

Three comments as per I2C case.

GENMASK() ?

Is it decimal one or bit based? I mean the maximum is 50 or is it a
bit field which represents raw value?

You may save some memory if you move this at the end of the structure.

So, you are using the regmap lock, what is this for? The golden rule
one _must_ describe locks (their purposes).

Try to keep reversed xmas tree order in definition block(s).

Entire loop is repetition of regmap_read_poll_timeout().

Untangle this. You may do on and off cases separately for better understanding.

goto variant in all similar places will save you a lot of lines

goto out_unlock;

...

out_unlock: // or err_unlock if it's only for error path.
  mutex_unlock(...);
  return ret;

...

Why not

ret = ...;
if (ret < 0)
  goto fail;

... = ret;

?

Also note inconsistency here with goto style and there where you open
coded error paths.

err_unlock:

Redundant 'else'

You may rather refactor this to be like

if (type != ...)
  return -EINVAL;

...

Why not return directly?

Consider to adapt to regmap_read_poll_timeout().

I'll probably mirror some of what Andy said and may well find nothing
more than he has :) I took a quick glance, so didn't comment on what
I was sure Andy had mentioned.

Anyhow comments inline.

Thanks,

GENMASK(2,1)

It can be good to use naming to indicate 'containment' of fields.
Here it's not obvious which register FSR is in.

> +#define FXLS8962AF_FSR_SHIFT			1

Use FIELD_PREP and FIELD_GET so you don't need to define mask and shift
separately.

I think the functions in here should all be stubbed if CONFIG_PM is not
set so much nicer to just let the compiler deal with making this do nothing.

If there is something in here that isn't safely stubbed, add a comment so
we don't 'tidy' up this in future.

As below, use a goto and error handling block.

Hmm. This final power down error case doesn't actually affect
whether the reading is good, so I wonder if you could just report
it failing via a dev_err() message. Having done that you can then
reorganise this to push the sign_extend32... under the lock
(doesn't matter much) and that will let you combine the good and
error paths down here to share the power state change and unlock.

Alternatively you could just add an error handling block after
the return below to pull that shared handling to one place.

The same applies in some other functions

How do you get here without it being 0?
Note regmap_update_bits returns <= 0 only so if (ret) above will make
the flow more obvious and avoid compilers moaning.

I would move this to where we need it around the set_full_scale
call alone. Lets us do direct returns in other paths...

for example here. Right now this just exited with direct mode
still claimed and hence broke any future access to the device.
(it's effectively a lock, be it a somewhat odd one)

Scan type doesn't mean anything for channels that aren't in the scan
(scan_index == -1) I see you do use realbits to do the sign extension
which is fine, but I wouldn't add any elements that aren't used such
as storagebits which is missleading I think

Do we have a better idea from the datasheet for how long this should take?
It is not a hot path so maybe just wait until after that and check once
that it succeeded?

Drop the ifdef as it goes wrong far too often (there are odd corners
of what can be enabled wrt to power management) and mark these
__maybe_unused instead. They'll get dropped anyway by the linker
if not used.

If you don't need indio_dev locally, then
	struct fxls8962af_data *data = iio_priv(dev_get_drvdata(dev));
doesn't use any meaning and is a tiny bit more compact.

Why do we need locks in this direction but not in resume?
Perhaps a comment here would clarify that.

Don't eat what might be a more specific error value.
