I was discussing the same thing with Catalin today. It is the most reasonable approach, as the host bridge driver that is likely to call this function should not be aware of the architectural flags used here. That should work. We already have pgprot_noncached/writecombine in asm-generic/pgtable.h which all architectures seem to include. The default can be pgprot_noncached and we would invoke it as pgprot_device(PAGE_KERNEL).
